Creativity and Self Doubt

What Sylvia is saying today makes complete and utter sense, and is probably one of her most shared, and most ‘memed’ quotes on the internet.

“The worst enemy to creativity is self doubt”

Sylvia Plath Creativity quoteUnfortunately, self-doubt often comes with creativity. ‘Will they like it’, ‘will they think it’s rubbish’, ‘am I deluding myself’.

Sylvia Plath was a tortured writer. She wrote relentlessly, and productively, at times, and sparingly at others. She doubted herself all of the time. Hence this quote, part of a longer piece from her Unabridged Journals.

We all do it, don’t we? And we shouldn’t.

Draw it, write it, act it, shout it!

Who cares what other people think? There will ALWAYS be critics, it’s part of life. But, at least you are doing it. You’re creating. Isn’t that the main thing?

And one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. I’m sure I read that on the internet somewhere…! 😉
